Many people in the United States are familiar with Mardi Gras celebrations but few are aware that in Europe, Karneval has been celebrated for CENTURIES!
In medieval times, the "Feast of Fools" was celebrated as the last opportunity for merrymaking and excessive indulgence in food & drink before the solemn season of Lent began.
In some areas of Europe, Karneval was a satirical way of expressing frustration of an oppressive government or monarchy.
So, it is only fitting that we have our own Royalty that are crowned at the start of every Karneval season!
